Thats a Wrap-5316
Where do I begin? I'm not sure if senioritis has finally kicked in or what but this class has exhausted me in ways I've never imagined. It has so many moving parts and I was completely overwhelmed starting with the initial contact all the way through today. It has been tough juggling being quarantined, sick work and this class. I will say that Fredy made it as enjoyable as possible. I feel as though he really listened to our needs and concerns and made us feel at ease and even adjusted the course to ease some of our frustrations. I really appreciate how open he was and his style of communication.
I felt as though this course came right on time, I mean 2020, right? This course, as hard and challenging as it was, has taught me about the 9 elements of digital citizenship- digital access, digital commerce, digital communication, digital literacy, digital etiquette, digital law, digital rights and responsibilities, digital health and wellness, and digital security. (Ribble, 2015.), copyright laws and how cyberbullying affects the school and students. I do wish that I was able to take this course earlier on in my course work because it provided many light bulb moments that I would have benefited from before teaching remotely occurred. Our issues with digital citizenship have increase and I feel as though I would have had more answers and more support through class participants in solving the issues our students faced. The week I learned the most from was the cyberbullying week. It tugged at my heart strings, but I learned what students go through when it comes to cyberbullying. I've never been a victim of cyberbullying, so as a child I can't relate to the emotions it brings. Learning about the scholars that had to change schools or ultimately committed suicide brought this home and made me realize how important it is to be proactive when it comes to cyberbullying. I was also able to learn more about my digital impact. When I completed my digital footprint search, I did so on google and safari. I first searched my first and last name then searched my first, middle and last name. On both searches, nothing turned up except a picture of me on my campus's website and that I live in Humble, Tx. I'm not sure if it's because I have a popular name or if I'm very aware of my footprint and try to keep a very low profile. I wasn't really surprised to find basically nothing on myself because I often search my name to see what pops up and never use my real name on things if I don't have to. I have many digital profiles online. You name it and I probably have it. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, LinkedIn, and probably more that I haven't accessed in a while. My digital footprint is something I'm proud of as I know I make a conscious effort in controlling what I place out into the world and what type of effect it would have on my employer or grandma.
While I'm sad that our time with Fredy has come to an end, I can honestly say I will not miss the workload of this class. I am also able to say that time wasn't wasted and everything I learned I could apply right away.
